Last year, the foundation provided 55 scholarships to students enabling them to continue their education.

The weather on Monday, September 24 was perfect for a day on the links. The 6th Annual Central Tech Foundation, Ron Vandever Memorial Golf Tournament, held at the Cushing Country Club, brought out 164 golfers helping to raise money for the foundation.

The tournament had a great response this year with 32 sponsors at the platinum, gold, silver and bronze levels. SpiritBank was the tournament sponsor again this year. Through the tournament, the Central Tech Foundation raised more than $17,500 to assist needy Central Tech students as they prepare for technical careers. Last year, the foundation was able to provide financial assistance to 55 students from 18 local communities.

The tournament had four flights of golfers with two winners from each flight. In the A Flight, the Community Bank team of Jay Krumme, Matt Smith, Don Sullivan and Tyler Sullivan won with a sore of 52. Second place in the A Flight was BancFirst, with teammates Gilbert Harris, Tim Moore, Harvey Robinson and Richard Opela with a score of 55.

In the B Flight, the Master Tech 2 team of Richard Corter, Ron Davis, Larry Parish and Bobby Warner placed first with a score of 59. OG&E placed 2nd after a tie breaker with a score of 59 by team members Chuck Mitchell, Tom Collins, Richard Schroyer and Mike Tucker.

In the C Flight, Team Master Tech 1 and players Curtis Shelton, Jeff Shelton, Linda Kay Herman and Dorothy Humphrey placed 1st with a score of 62. Second place in the C Flight was the Kalka Insurance Agency team with Scott Hammer, Jimmy Hernandez, Clint Webb and Tammy Webb – they also scored a 62 – but lost the tie breaker.

In the D Flight, winners were Autry Tech, with members Brian Gaddy, Marcie Mack, Ora Morgan and Don Roberts with a score of 68. Second Place in the D Flight after a tie breaker was Spirit Bank Team 1 with teammates Topper Causby, Denny Bond, Jonathan Hedrixson and Steve Brown with a score of 68.

Winners of the Red Eye Flight were team members of the Ron’s Duffers team, Ashley Vandever, Linda Waul, Ann Mullin and Martha Miller with a score of 72.

“The success of Central Tech’s Foundation fundraiser helps many students stay in school and gain a career,” said Phil Waul, Central Tech’s superintendent. “Thank you to all of our sponsors and golfers.”
