New Class Prepares Students for Oil & Gas Pipeline Jobs

This one-of-a-kind pipeline technology training will prepare students for the basics of locating, inspecting and maintaining oil and gas pipelines as well as the cathodic protection process.

Students enrolled in the Pipeline Technology class will choose from three career majors: Pipeline Oil and Gas Technician, Pipeline Inspector or Cathodic Protection Technician.

The Pipeline Oil and Gas Technician career major gives students an overview of the pipeline industry including safety, operations, regulations, inspection, communications, pipeline locating and valve maintenance.

In the Pipeline Inspector career major students will receive a wide variety of theory and hands-on learning beginning with safety, and progress into pipeline right-of-way, security and communications. Students will receive comprehensive training in inspection equipment, hand tools, coating inspection alignment sheets, and locating pipelines.

The Cathodic Protection Technician career major prepares students for jobs in corrosion control, a vital segment of pipeline operations. Training concentrates on coating specs, surface profiles and preparation, coating application and inspections. Emphasis is placed on essential skills necessary to oversee pipeline excavation, pipeline damage evaluation, and isolating and implementing required repairs.

Students completing the pipeline technology course can expect to make $15-$25 an hour. Students completing the cathodic protection career major will be prepared to enroll in the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) CP-1 class to obtain their NACE CP-1 credential.

The Pipeline Technology program is now enrolling, and class begins on February 23. For more information stop by the Pipeline Technology classroom during Central Tech’s 45th Open House on February 15 from 1-4pm on the Drumright campus or visit CentralTech.Edu.
