Central Tech’s adult career development department on the Sapulpa campus offers an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course twice a year. After one semester, students are prepared to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMET) EMT-basic certification.

EMTs are dedicated individual who respond to locations wherever medical care is needed. People’s lives often depend on an EMT’s quick reaction and competent care when responding to emergency calls. 

In the Central Tech EMT course, students learn to use specialized equipment, basic patient assessment, splinting and other life saving procedures. 

During the EMT course, students participate in hands on experiences, including a life-like mass casualty incident scenario.

“The scenario is important for the EMT class, because it teaches students about the emotional side of Emergency Medical Services,” said Stephanie Smith, Central Tech EMT instructor.

The need for EMTs is growing, with jobs available at hospitals, local government agencies and through independent ambulatory health care services according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

After completion of the EMT class, students can continue their education at Central Tech by enrolling in EMT-Advanced or Paramedic. 

The average salary for an EMT in Oklahoma is $31,530 according to the US bureau of Labor Statistics.
