Central Tech’s Cosmetology class visits pre-kindergarten and head start students of Bradley Elementary in Drumright, Okla. once a month as part of the community service project, Make a Child Feel Special, through the SkillsUSA chapter.

Each Central Tech cosmetology student is paired with a Bradley student for the entire year and work on projects including art, reading, math, coloring, and visiting with the students.

“This is a great way to give back to the community and promote Central Tech Cosmetology and SkillsUSA,” said Monica Frick, Central Tech Cosmetology instructor. “Some people may not understand the importance of our community service project, however, it makes a huge impact on these children.”

The Bradley students visit Central Tech twice a year to tour our campus, get their faces and nails painted, and spend time with their Central Tech buddy.

Central Tech students commit to making their Bradley buddies feel special by creating Christmas, Valentines, and Halloween gifts.

“Both sets of students get a great deal out of the experience,” Frick said. “We’ve been doing this for 15 years and students we visited in the past are now attending Central Tech. They remember when they were a Bradley student, and now they get to give back to Bradley and be a buddy.”
