Do you love working with kids? Are you the person your classmates turn to when they need something explained? If so, teaching might be the career you’ve been looking for, and the Teacher Prep Program is the place to start.
This one-year program is designed for high school juniors and seniors who are serious about becoming K–12 educators. You won’t just read about teaching; you’ll step into a real classroom and do it.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
You will begin the year by exploring the world of education: its history, purpose, and impact. Through engaging lessons, projects, and collaboration, you will learn what makes great teachers great, and what it truly means to guide and inspire students.
In this program, you’ll build the knowledge and skills that education programs look for:
- Foundations of Education
- Child & Adolescent Development
- Classroom Management Strategies
- Educational Ethics & Professional Conduct
- Communication & Presentation Skills
- Instructional Technology and Modern Teaching Practices
- College Planning & Certification Pathways
REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE
This is where Teacher Prep gets real. In the spring semester, every student is placed in a partner K–12 school for a hands-on internship experience. You’ll work alongside a licensed teacher, observe daily classroom instruction, and actively support student learning, not just watch from the sidelines.
During your internship, you will:
- Be placed at a local elementary or secondary school partner
- Observe professional teachers managing real classrooms every day
- Assist with lessons, activities, and student support
- Develop professional habits and communication skills in a real work environment
All internships are coordinated and evaluated by the Teacher Preparation instructor in collaboration with partner schools.
